Reliving my Southern Gothic Adventure: Part 2.*

continuing on with this week of remembrance for one of the best trips i have taken, i want to relive this time over&over again. this was our amtrack ride from birmingham, alabama to new orleans, louisiana. swamps, rivers, bridges, and cemetaries for miles. no better feeling of freedom in the world....*

Southern Hospitality.*

“southern hospitality” is a real thing. after visiting the south and being welcomed to take pictures at ten in the morning, these guys drank their beers and told me to make them famous. sure, no problem. i'll get right on that....*

Babies on Beaches in Biloxi.*

on our long drive from new orleans to savannah, we stopped at the beaches in biloxi. these homeless men who were living on the beach had a perfectly well taken care of, healthy, clean baby girl. they were all cooing over her and i don't know if i have ever seen anyone so happy. i have no idea who the father was, where the baby came from, or what was going on, but they loved her so much that it wasn't my place to interfere.*

The Golden Hour.*

i stared at her the entire time. she looked so contemplative and thoughtful and maybe a bit nervous in anticipation of arriving to our shared destination. she stared out the window the entire time and i felt like a paparazzi, but she was so beautiful that i just had to have at least one good shot. the grandpa and grandson were so happy to be spending time together. their smiles were huge. it's too bad they can't be seen, but i will remember. as for me, i was just thinking too much, as usual.*

Amtrack: From Birmingham back to New Orleans.*

this was our amtrack ride from birmingham, alabama to new orleans, louisiana. swamps, rivers, bridges, and cemetaries for miles. strangers on the train making beautiful subjects lost in thought, and my two favorite ladies giggling in the background, as usual. (it totally reminds me of the modest mouse song where isaac screams, "drunk on the amtrack, please shut up!")*

Dirt South: New Orleans, Night #1

i finally got my 13 rolls developed and imported here....i am going to start slow since there are such good stories to be told. this was our first night in new orleans. we were staying at the chateau dupree and someone shoved their fist through the window above the doorknob on the door and there as blood and glass all over the hotel and i was like,"man, what a drunk idiot." the next day, as there was broken glass there, i shoved my arm through it three times in one day. anyway, these ladies know how to party, and who better to party with than a bunch of hot chicks who love to live life in the buff?* (for more images, click on the picture to link to my flickr.)

The Voodoo Queen of New Orleans.*

so far, my favorite thing about new orleans is maria laveau, the famous "voodoo queen." she lived in perpetual youth for over a century and prepared gris-gris for the locals for hexes and charms. everything here is creepy, old, beautiful, haunting, intricate, sketchy, warm, and full of liquor. cafe au lait and beignets, gumbo and po-boys, hurricanes and hand grendaes, rovers are daiquiris, and strippers lettin tourists suck their titties for A DOLLAR. and then there's the magic....*
