The New Gypsies.*

in the heat of the summer, each day has been driven by a relentless momentum, and it's wonderful. one day last week, one of my closest and oldest friends came to visit from new york on one of her cross-country gypsy adventures. we went to a bookstore and i stumbled upon this photographer, ian mckell and his book the new gypsies, which documents nomadic tribes of people at stonehenge during summer solstice. they are breathtaking and make me just want to pack up and go. plans for the future, where time stands still....*

R.I.P. Trish Keenan.*

trish keenan, british frontwoman of the amazing band broadcast, and also one of my favorite ladies in musical history, died last friday at the age of 42 from complications with pneumonia. (pneumonia, seriously? it's 2011, for god's sake! i don't understand how this is possible.) in her psychedelic hippie dresses with belled sleeves and flowing hair, she always had op-art backgrounds and beautiful video shows to accompany her eerily soothing voice. when i last saw her perform at the trubadour in hollywood, she wore a silver sequined dress and go-go boots, her voice haunting the cavernous wooden building like a melodic seance. you will be missed, girl.*

The High Priestess of Rock N' Roll.*

speaking of influential sorceresses, i just felt the need to pay homage to my favorite one in history, stevie herself. talk about a fashion icon! from her youth to her peak and even now, this woman was edgy, vampy, and still soft and classic somehow. i wish i had my own white owl familiar to perch upon my blessed hand....*

St. Valentine

when i think of romance, i think of a trip we took to salvation mountain. we ate mushrooms and painted the town pink. ian took this photo of me with leonard knight's cat. leonard knight is an amazing man. a lifetime of devotion to god, art, and beauty. ever since then, i always crave the solace of the desert.*
