Roaming in LA: Graff, Trannies, and Spacemen.*

running around LA, some of the things to be seen: lots of writing on the walls, super-cute dracula cat posters, neon-wearing trannies who say we look like fun girls, and, my favorite, the man who wanted to tell us all about his planet out in space.*

Retna & The Mac.*

i went with ian to go photograph retna and the mac as they painted. those two are incredible. retna created his own hebrew/arabic-looking language and the mac paints like i've never seen before, 3D shading and crosshatching and detail like you'd never image was possible to achieve with spraypaint. i sat on the fire escape and wrote in my journal as the boys be'd boys. i guess i'll never escape my teenage gothness at heart.*

my man says about his friends, "i'm like the king, and they are my knights." sure, baby. i like that you and your knights like to do such brave and noble things as shave in the backyard, wear heart-shaped sunglasses at strip clubs, and create best-selling rap albums on the side of the house.*

D.I.Y. 4EVA: Zine Love.*

i made my first zine when i was 16 years old. "back in myyyy day," we used to have to actually be on snail mail lists and write letters with pen and paper and contact d.i.y. distros. now, there's the glorious interweb and the adobe suite and it's so futuristic...but not at all. anyways, as i make #2 of this new little series and print #1, i try to refresh my zine know-how, and here's what comes to mind.*


little paper planes has art prints, paper goods, zines, clothing, and accessories. quite cutesy indeed.




mudguts is awesome because it has all these zines made by different people, mostly photography and graffiti, but it embodies the whole aesthetic of that grimy, bloody-kids-on-drugs-naked-and-tagging, bay area look.




speaking of san fran and its dubious nature, im sure most everyone knows about hamburger eyes, but just in case you don't, now you do. a black and white street photography zine that has gotten fairly fancy over the years.

Russian Princess Meets 1968.*

i've never been to canada, but i like their style: socialized medicine, canadian tuxedos, lots of flannels, and FASHION magazine. these clothes are exactly what i want to be wearing all week in this wet, cold, northern weather. just as they said, it's "russian princess meets....1968." boho, mongol style.*

Urban Nomad Love.*

this season, the designers are doing my favorite look ever and they are doing it SO WELL, especially missoni (who also has the corresponding kenneth anger video, posted below, for this collection). dream wardrobe. give me layers, patterns, fringe, and fur (faux, of course).*

talk about my fantasy wardrobe! jean paul gaultier has done it again, creating a rich fantasy world, a visual narrative of gypsies and flappers and fortune tellers.... if i could have ANYTHING this season, it would be one of these headdresses, gold cape-gowns, and a crystal ball.*
